A Devotional for June 3, 2026 on Job 1:12
Job 1:12 records a remarkable moment in the heavenly conversation surrounding Job’s life. God permits Satan to test Job, yet He also establishes a boundary: “Only upon himself put not forth thine hand.” Even in the midst of coming suffering, God remains completely sovereign. The enemy is not free to act independently. He can go only as far as God allows.
This verse reminds us that nothing enters the life of a believer apart from the knowledge and permission of God. That truth does not remove the pain of trials, nor does it answer every question we may have. Yet it anchors us in the certainty that our lives are not governed by chance, fate, or the unchecked power of evil. God remains on the throne.
When difficult circumstances arise, it is easy to feel abandoned or vulnerable. Job would soon experience devastating loss, but the story reveals what Job himself could not see: God had not forgotten him. Behind the scenes, God was still setting limits, still ruling, still working toward a greater purpose.
The same is true for us. There may be seasons when we cannot understand why certain hardships come into our lives. Yet we can trust that our Heavenly Father remains sovereign over every detail. The trial may be real, but so is His authority. The suffering may be painful, but His purposes are never absent.
Today, rest in the knowledge that God’s hand is greater than every trial you face. Nothing can cross the boundaries He has established, and nothing can separate you from His love and care.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You that You reign over every circumstance of my life. When I face uncertainty, help me trust Your wisdom and Your sovereign care. Remind me that no trial is beyond Your control and that Your purposes are always good. Strengthen my faith and help me rest in Your unfailing love. Amen.
